MARCH LIVE EVENT-What is your mission?
By Daren Chen | March 7th, 2021
A workshop on the mission was held via zoom on March 6, 2021. The workshop was sponsored by MeiYu International Learning Group. This workshop was led by James Madison Scholar Mr. Craig Uplinger, and hosted by Daren Chen. Mr. Uplinger is a member of Phi Alpha Theta, a national historical honor society, and he is also the Outstanding Graduate Scholar in History in 2015.
During this workshop, Mr. Uplinger described to the learners what a mission was and how to live up to it. He gave examples of people and societies drifting away from their original mission statements and breaking those promises. He inspired the learners that mission statements were not always blatant or clear, but people could always go deep down to find them, and that would be memorable and meaningful. He shared one of his mission statements “I hold these truths to be self-evident, that all students are created equal, that they are endowed by their creator with unlimited potential found through the inspiration of their hearts, their minds, and their souls. To secure such potential, relationships must be established, rooted by trust, nurtured by love, and committed to youthful dreams.” He described when he felt like he was going off track, he would remember his statement and guided himself back on track. And that was the meaning of the mission.
For the Q&A session, Mr. Uplinger answered all the questions asked by the learners, such as “How can we motivate students and help them discover their mission or passion in life?” “How do you prove yourself capable of something when everyone thinks you can't do it?” “ how to make important choices?” etc.
